Since I didn't get my act together earlier enough in the week to pre-schedule Monday's Mutt in advance, this week will feature my other precious pooch. I'll be hitting up my friends and acquaintances to showcase their 3 and 4-legged friends in the very near future.
Therefore, it is with great privilege and honor that I introduce you to:
Maude
Maude is a 5-year old Oki Mix that was rescued from the sidewalks of Yomitan Village in Okinawa, Japan. For those of you who are not familiar with the very popular breed, Oki mix, it is a mix between several various and unknown Japanese canine species. Usually abandoned, tied to a tree or ignored, Oki mixes often make their way to military families living in Japan.
GT: So Maude, if you are from Japan. . .how did you end up with in the United States your current family?
Maude: You know how I ended up with you.
GT: Of course I know, but others reading this blog don't know your story.
Maude: Well, I was born into a litter of puppies in Okinawa, Japan and you and Kim lived across the street from us. My Japanese family didn't really pay much attention to me or my siblings. One day when I was 7 weeks old I was out looking for my mommy and I was hit by a car and was left on the sidewalk. You and Kim rescued me.
GT: Oh no. . .what happened next?
Maude: This is really silly. Why are you asking me all these questions when you know the answers?
GT: Oh Maude, just go with it.
Maude: So you brought me to the vet and I had a broken tibia and a broken femur and I had surgery on my leg and the bones healed but my muscles did not stretch so I had to go to physical therapy everyday for a month to try and stretch my muscles but they still didn't stretch so the vets amputated it. The end.
GT: And that answer is such a good seque to my next question. How did you get your name?
Maude: Well at first you liked it because it meant 'brave little maid' but now you like it because it reminds you of Bea Arthur on the TV show Maude and apparently she was a feisty lady. I'm still trying to figure out why she reminds you of me.
GT: How do you like living in the United States?
Maude: It's the home of the free and the brave.
GT: Does that mean you like it?
Maude: Love it.
GT: What is your favorite toy?
Maude: Hmmmm. . .I kind of like toying with Maeve's mind. Does that count?
GT: Where is your favorite place. . .other than home?
Maude: I like Club K-9 because I have my own friends there and I don't have to share with Maeve.
GT: Do you have any nicknames?
Maude: You still like to call me Maudeykins and little Maudie sunshine. Sherry calls me Maudie Lynn. You used to call me Pokey Pokerson and BossHog but I think I've grown out of those names.
GT: You have mellowed quite a bit in the last few years.
Maude: I prefer to think of it as 'matured'.
GT: Maude, why do you tap me on the shoulder several times in the middle of the night?
Maude: Because I'm cold and I want UNDER the covers like you.
GT: What is one word to describe you?
Maude: Lucky
GT: Anything else you 'd like everyone to know?
Maude: Yes, that I know I can be a wee bit stand-offish and aloof, but I really love people and I think most of them love me too.

I sure miss Maude!! Geez.. remember that pig that she teared up! Does she reallly tap you in the middle of the night?? I will never forget the time I let her sleep in our bed when Chris was deployed. She ended up sleeping by my head.. and I would wake up to see her just glaring at me... she didn't sleep a wink.
Yes. . .she does tap me on the shoulder in the middle of the night. Isn't that funny? She only does it in the winter when she's cold. . .I guess her native island girl blood hasn't thickened yet!
