flight risk

Take a good look at this mug shot.  Cute, eh?  As adorable as it is, this little turkey scaled my 6-foot privacy fence last night and hightailed it out of the neighborhood.  She was apprehended an hour later by one very tearful and distraught momma.  She is currently on house arrest.

maeve's day at the dog park

Let the selection process begin.

Quickly narrowed down to two. . .

Ozzie or Colby??
Colby or Ozzie??

And the winner is. . .   Ozzie

Hey. . .I'm not done playing.  Come out from under there.

Please play with me?  Pretty Please?

I'm asking nicely. . .

busted. . .

Maude's cover is blown.  I have evidence that Maude loves Maeve.  Not only did I catch them sleeping next to each other on the bed, but I picked them up from doggy day care the other day and was told that they played together ALL DAY.  How sweet is that. . .

bathing beauties. . .

I'm only a month into my new blogging adventure, and I've already broken my own cardinal rule of blogging. . .never forget the camera.  I took Maeve and Maude to the dog park tonight (camera opportunity #1) where I could have captured Maeve's FOD pursuit in action.  Today Maeve selected Heidi to be her FOD. . .although I'm almost certain that the feeling wasn't mutual.  After the dog park we went to The Dog Salon for Maeve's first nail trimming experience (camera opportunity #2) where they actually used a dremel to file her nails.  While at the dog salon, I decided to take advantage of their self-service wash for both Maeve and Maude (camera opportunity #3).  Based on the way they both reacted to the 'high velocity dryer', you would have thought I was the big bad wolf blowing the house down and Maeve and Maude were the little pigs stuck inside as they both backed into the corner of the tub and shook (camera opportunity #4).  So. . .I learned my lesson and the camera will be joining me on all future excursion so that not one photo opp will be missed.

monday's mutt

In memory of Mac, I am going to begin a weekly series titled Monday's Mutt.
It only seems appropriate that our first Monday's Mutt would be one of my very own.

So. . .without further adieu, I introduce:

Maeve

Maeve is a  1 and 1/2 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix that was rescued from the Charlotte Humane Society in July 2008.

GT: How did you get your name?
Maeve: My name was actually Cara in the shelter, but you and Taylor changed it to Maeve because  it means 'joy'.  I think I'm supposed to bring you joy (which I'm trying really hard to do).

GT: Do you have any nicknames?
Maeve: I have lots of nicknames.  Maevis, Maevis Davis, MaevisD, MD, rugrat, lovebug.  Sometimes I hear you say "you little stinkpot" but I'm pretty sure you aren't talking to me.

GT: What types of activities do you enjoy?
Maeve: What's activities?  That is a big word for me.

GT: Okay, what types of things do you like to do outside?
Maeve: Oh, I like to run and chase squirrels, and go to the dog park and go for long walks.

GT: What is your favorite toy?
Maeve: Wow. . .that is a toss-up.  I'd have to say my Planet Dog Christmas Bulb or my Kong Wubba.  I really like stuffed, plush toys with squeakers but you stopped bringing those home.  Something about being tired of cleaning white stuffing all over the house?

GT: Maeve, why do you like to steal my unmentionables from the laundry pile?
Maeve: I have no idea what you are talking about.

GT: Do you have any tricks?
Maeve: I'm a good snuggler.  Is that a trick?  I'm trying really hard to sit when I'm supposed to. And not to jump on people because I know you think it is rude to jump on guests.  I'm just so excited that they came to see ME.

GT: But you do realize that that people really don't come over just to see you, right?
Maeve: Yeah, sure, uh huh.

GT: Do you have any pet peeves?
Maeve: Just going into my crate when you leave.  It's lonely in there.  And not very comfortable.

GT: But if you didn't chew things in the house, you wouldn't have to go in the crate.
Maeve: Whatever.

GT: What is one word that describes you?
Maeve: Crazy

GT: Anything else you'd like to let everyone know about you?
Maeve: Just that I love my life!

elf on a shelf

I wonder if

would work on
 Maeve

and
Maude
Please?

who needs a BFF when you have an FOD. . .

A few months ago, I started taking Maude and Maeve on a weekly trip to the dog park.  The plan was for Maeve to release some of her spunk, exuberance, zest for lift, etc. and spare my socks, slippers, pillows, and various & sundry other items of a private nature that often make their way to Maeve's personal stash.

Maeve has taken to this new adventure like a fish in water.  And each week she finds ONE dogs with whom she would like to play.  Not the pack of dogs playing in the park, not the same dog or even same  breed of dog every week, not her bossy pal Maude, but a NEW DOG every week.  Our visit goes something like this.

  • Arrival
  • Maeve begins the friend of the day selection process
  • Maeve selects the lucky (or unlucky for some) winner
  • Maeve follows, escorts, harasses, torments chosen friend
  • Departure (a blog story in itself)
Most of these lucky FOD's ignore her, but she forges on and doesn't leave their side. They run, she runs. . .they chase balls, she chases them. . .they try to hide, she's hiding right there with them. Perseverance at its finest.

In Maeve's mind, who needs a BFF when she has Zoe and Louis and Rosie and Charlie and Spencer and. . .

I wonder what Maeve's Myers-Briggs would say about her.
